Location: 9/10 - The hotel is just a short trip away from the town, city hall, and Burnham Park, among other locations. Guests arriving via Victory Liner will find the hotel’s distance from the terminal convenient. There are also some nearby dining establishments that are open late at night (they came in handy, considering the hotel doesn’t provide food and room service beyond 9 PM). I know nothing about the view from the bigger suites, or the ones on higher floors, but the Deluxe Twin room I booked, and even the restaurant and lobby don’t offer much of a good view. Then again, the hotel is situated in an urban area and is far away from nature, so the scenery, or lack thereof, isn’t anyone’s problem (just mentioning this for travelers who are looking for lodging with nice scenery and a good view). Comfort: 9/10 - The rooms are comfortable. The Deluxe Twin room is already spacious enough for two people. Extra pillows are offered free of charge and the beds are okay too. Free self-served coffee is provided 24/7 in the lobby, which is a smart and generous offer, especially in a cold city. The lobby, which also houses the hotel’s dining area, is not cramped. The place is peaceful and quiet. Security and bell service staff: 8/10 - Upon arrival, they would always pick you up from the taxis with umbrellas during rains, and they often offer to carry your things. I would have thought they would offer luggage trolleys automatically but I guess you have to ask for that service. They also hail taxis for hotel guests without demanding tips. The 24/7 front desk also made me feel secure. Cleanliness and housekeeping: 8/10 - The housekeeping staff are polite and helpful and the room itself is clean. Technology: 7.5/10 - The WiFi is odecent. Charges: 7/10 - I really appreciate that the deal on this site already includes taxes and other charges.
Food: 4/10 - I read a review on this website that remarked that free food shouldn’t be bad, and they’re right. The complimentary breakfast is a generous offer that is quite common now in hotels in the Philippines, but don’t get your hopes up with the Chalet’s menu. The breakfast buffet doesn’t have a wide selection of breakfast items, or even drinks (the drinks they offer are just hot chocolate and coffee). I wouldn’t even mind the few choices offered if the food tasted good but I guess it says a lot about the hotel if the most praise-worthy items on the menu are hotdogs and eggs. I don’t even know if the hotel purposely offers bleak food choices to motivate guests to dine out, or if the management just isn’t prepared to have guests every two weeks. In the list of house rules posted in every room, there is a section that states guests are not allowed to bring outside food just because the hotel promises a minibar, room service, and a restaurant. I find that statement absurd because what business is it of the hotel management if you order food from other establishments and have it delivered, or if you bring snacks for your trip? I don’t get the logic of that statement either, especially because guests can only avail of dining and room service until 8:00-8:59 PM because the kitchen closes at 9 PM, and some guests still want to eat beyond 9 PM, like me, because I checked in after 9 PM already. The mini fridge isn’t available for the twin rooms, by the way, and I think they should improve this because a mini fridge is just a small favor to a guest anyway. Lighting: 6/10 - We all know bedrooms are not supposed to be illuminated like a mall, but I didn’t like that the lighting in the hotel room was not evenly spread, and there were few light sources, resulting in a dim and bleak ambiance. Bathroom: 6/10 - Hand towels and floor rugs aren’t offered unless the guest personally requests for them, which is a strange practice for a hotel, even for a 3-star one.
