The Cliff Bay

We traveled in early March for our honeymoon and had a fantastic two night stay. We booked a superior room with sea view but got upgraded to a superior room with Bay view, which had a gorgeous balcony from where you could see Funchal, the ocean and the sunrise (if you’re an early riser). The bed was very comfortable. The staff is great. We enjoyed eating breakfast at Gallo d’oro, especially the service and nice views (food was also good but not as memorable as the pleasant surroundings). It was amazing to sit by the pool over the cliffs with a view over the ocean and Funchal while lying in our sun-beds. The location and the views is quite something special. We were happy with the quality of the restaurants in the nearby area.

The hotel is located in a crowded tourist place with busy roads (not fun to walk around). It’s peaceful while you’re within hotel facilities but as soon as you walk out of the hotel we grab lunch or dinner the relaxing glow of the hotel fades away. As young adults who are comfortable arranging our own transport (car rental), we feel we got more value for our money staying at another place outside Funchal later in our trip. If you are looking for adventures you may prefer to stay at another place. For our honeymoon trip and with our available budget, staying two nights at the Cliff Bay Hotel was just perfect.

Superb breakfast; hotel facilities especially the sea access, swimming pools and spa. Service and the Staff is really 5* and go the extra mile.

Hotel was amazing. Had a balcony view of the ocean and the room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was included, which I recommend because it's a great breakfast full of options. The hotel had a spa session, which I recommend you book as soon as you arrive. The only downside to our experience is there was very limited spa sessions to choose from, so we had to alter our itenary on things we were doing to fit with the spa schedule. Massage was delightful, and the steam room/ sauna area was amazing. Clean and really great - Loved the Tropical/Ice Shower option in between the steam room and sauna!

More Spa appointment availability would have been nice. As I mentioned above, there were limited times to do a spa massage treatment, so we had to vary our schedule to fit into the spa schedule, which wasn't ideal. But, I'd just recommend you book this in advance of your arrival.
