There is so much to love about Ravana Heights. We were welcomed warmly by the owner and his staff with freshly made tea and pancakes. We enjoyed this treat out of the patio looking out to Little Adams Peak. Breakfast is always out on the patio so we got to enjoy this view everyone morning of our visit - one of the highlights of our time in Ella. The rooms are spacious, clean and use good quality linen. The owner Senadhi grew up in the area and provided us with so many great tips. He even organized a free tuk tuk tour one morning to take us to some of Ella’s best kept secrets. A great experience!Another highlight of our stay was dinner cooked by Vasanthi and the other staff. It was the best meal we had while in Sri Lanka and I would highly recommend it. Ravana Heights is located above the main road heading into Ella but because of its height you hardly notice the road. The walk into town is about 5 minutes so it’s very accessible.

Location is great for doing the Ella Rock hike and easy access to Ella’s shops and bars. If you’re looking for somewhere close to Little Adams peak, the other side of the village would be more convenient. The view from the property is epic. Breakfast was great and included a fruit platter, pancakes, eggs of your choice and toast.
We didn’t receive a particularly warm welcome on arrival. There wasn’t anyone at the front desk and no one helped us with our luggage up the steep steps going up to the hotel - we arrived about 6pm, so not unusually late. Apart from the owner no one speaks English here, so it was difficult to communicate with staff. The hotel suppose to charge your credit card (with no credit card fees as advertised by booking.com) a week prior to arrival. They don’t charge the card, instead they want you to pay cash when you leave or add 3% card fee if you pay at the hotel by card. This isn’t clear when the booking is made, if I knew they wouldn’t charge my card prior to arrival, I would have made sure I had enough cash on me. The room needed some maintenance, the safe was playing up, it took about 10 attempts to lock it and same to open it. Bathroom seemed newly renovated, but unfortunately style over function. The water wouldn’t go down the sink. We’ve raised it with staff but they haven’t done anything about it during our stay. Water in the bathroom was yellowish. We’ve only been given one tiny bottle of shower gel and it hasn’t been replaced when the room was made up the following morning. It was hard work trying to ask for another one, which still wasn’t enough for our stay by the way - this is a hiking destination, it gets dusty and people shower 2 or 3 times a day after walks in the heat. It costs next nothing to provide toiletries, so why not be a bit more generous, this place is £80 a night after all. Generally lacks attention to detail.

Excellent site (breakfast terrace opposite Ella Rock) and location within easy walking distance of Ella Station and plentiful restaurants. The affable host, Senaelhi, was a firm Anglophile (rare these days) and suggested itineraries for us over our three day stay. He employed a tuk-tuk driver who, on the first afternoon, took us on a scenic drive into the hills above Ella from where we could see Little Adam's Peak and Lipton's Seat. The accommodation was handily placed for buses to attractions in the surrounding area. Trips we enjoyed included: taking the train to nearby Bandarawela and wandering through the exotic and tourist-free Sunday market followed by a cup of tea in the nearby Bandarawela Hotel - a venerable old tea planters' club; walking along the railway line from Ella Station to the grandiose Nine Arch Bridge and then ascending through Finlay Tea Estate upto the summit of Little Adam's Peak with stupendous views, returning back down to catch the momentous sight of the 1530 train to Badulla chugging majestically over the aforementioned bridge; taking the bus to Wellawaya, passing by the soaring Rawana Waterfall en route, then negotiating with a tuk-tuk driver to take us to the magnificent Dilaluma Waterfalls where we swam blissfully with locals in one of the delightful rockpools; stopping by the roadside to observe rice being threshed and fed directly into sacks.
Everything exceeded expectations. The female staff were utterly charming and would provide daytime meals, if requested, as well as substantial and delicious breakfasts.
