The breakfast buffet was excellent. Also, dinner was nice, and I also had some wine at the bar that was enjoyable. I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Faidherbe.
The neighborhood felt a little unsafe.

English speaking staff, great advantage. Money exchange with a good rate at the reception. Good location near the harbor (easy access to Ile de Goree etc.), near pharmacies, shops, the independence square etc.
The room didn't have a refrigerator which would've been very nice to keep cold drinks in the heat of Dakar.

Clean and uncomplicated place with a good breakfast and a decent restaurant. The staff was very helpful with planning trip out of town. Nice terrace.

Great central location, generally lovely staff, a fantastic and clean swimmingpool, comfortable and clean rooms. The restaurant is also very good, so is the restaurant staff -- except one incident that I will explain below.
Don't treat your customers who have a complaint like they were stupid people or liars who are making up stories. Here are 2 examples from my stay: 1. The WiFi connection is generally NOT working properly on the 5th floor, the WiFi comes and goes, and it is generally slow and unstable. When I complained about this issue at the reception desk, they just told me to make sure I enter the correct password. They pretended they never heard about this issue, just as if I was too stupid to enter the password correctly. The truth is: Lots of booking.com customers have complained about this before, so please don't pretend you don't know, and don't blame your customers, but rather make sure every room has a good WiFi connection! 2. A similar thing occurred when I entered my credit card PIN to pay for the room: The payment didn't go through and the reception staff said: "You entered the wrong PIN!" Well, it turned out that their credit card terminal was not working properly. 3. When I found a small stone in my chicken sausage at the restaurant, the kitchen and restaurant staff didn't seem to believe me, I had to actually SHOW them the stone that nearly broke my tooth. And they didn't even apologize for this! This is not the way you should treat your customers in a 4-star hotel!
